South Side Studios is located in south Dallas, less than 2 miles from downtown, just down the street from The Cedars Neighborhood.

About The Cedars

Home to a growing community of art galleries, restaurants, and entertainment, the Cedars neighborhood has seen incredible growth in recent years. Within walking distance from the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center and the OMNI Downtown Dallas hotel, the area is a destination for live entertainment and nightlife, including Gilley’s Dallas, South Side Ballroom, and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. The neighborhood is also home to the Canvas hotel, a boutique hotel and rooftop lounge housed in a redeveloped historic manufacturing facility.

There is a wide variety of independent dining destinations within the area, including Monica’s, Opening Bell Coffee, Checkered Past Winery, Melted, Sandwich Hag, and a consistent production crew favorite: Lee Harvey’s.

The Cedars offers a true live-work-play setting with several residential options, including the authentic lofts at South Side on Lamar. Built in 1910 as the first Sears warehouse built outside Chicago, Matthews Southwest purchased the property in 1997. South Side on Lamar opened in 2000 offering loft-style apartments, ground floor retail and restaurants, and office space for local artisans and non-profits. In addition to the Lofts, South Side Flats opened in 2016, bringing 290 rental units to the neighborhood. David Weekly Homes is currently building three-story, single family homes, which start in the $400k’s. Matthews Southwest also developed the 75-unit Beat Loft condo tower and the 164-unit Belleview apartments, which provide work force housing to the area.

Thanks largely to the efforts of Matthews Southwest, the area is now home to the Dallas Police Department’s Jack Evans Headquarters. The state-of-the-art headquarters has boosted security in the growing neighborhood. Located two blocks east of Lamar, the Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s Cedars Station is served by the red and blue lines, connecting the neighborhood to the entire metroplex, including DFW Airport. The Cedars is uniquely located with easy access to I-30, I-35W, the Dallas North Tollway, and I-45/I-75. The Cedars is also in close proximity to the American Airlines Center, which is home to the Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavericks, Downtown and Uptown Dallas, the Dallas Farmers Market, Fair Park, and Deep Ellum.
